Creative Game for Children
My 4-year-old daughter and I play this game every once in a while and we love it. It’s paced so that you can get used to the (many) elements that can be used to build worlds. Each element is unique and adds interesting capabilities to young “gods”. As a parent, I love that it establishes an environment where creativity and construction are key, as opposed to the usual fare of linear worlds and bigger guns. I think The Sandbox is a good open-ended teaching platform.
One thing that bothers us is the somewhat frequent crashing. It doesn’t happen every time, but I’d say a half hour to an hour of gameplay in freestyle mode is a 50/50 chance it will crash. That said, I understand how complex this must be to create a world in which every pixel is “smart” and interacts with its environment, so kudos to the developers for a well-delivered concept. More stability and it would be 5 stars.
